Return to Training Plan
BSKF are pleased to announce that Sports England have now approved a return to play for Shorinji Kempo in the UK as part of the DCMS framework for contact combat sports.
With the publication of the below plan, Shorinji Kempo is now considered an approved sport under the DCMS framework. As such, any permitted training activity organised by BSKF is now exempt from the normal legal gathering limits, and instead will be subject to the guidelines and restrictions set out in the plan.

What training is allowed?
The DCMS contact combat sports framework, and the Shorinji Kempo return to training plan, set out a number of phases and steps for the reintroduction of different types of practice, along with approved timeframes for each.
From 19th July 2021, the following is allowed:
- Adult training may move to Phase 2 (contact training), this means all forms of training are now allowed, and there is no requirement to maintain social distancing.
- It is recommended masks be worn for all close range training such as padwork and contact.
- Bubbles are no longer required, however partner rotation for contact training and padwork should be kept to a minimum. Where possible fixed partners should be maintained for the duration of each class. Where not possible partners should rotate in groups of no more than 6.
- Branches are required to continue to comply with any additional requirements from their venues.
Please note: as of publication, only limited guidance has been released by Government and Sport England relating to martial arts activities at Step 4. The above requirements may be revised as and when additional guidance is issued.
